Googled
48% of our members Google potential dates! Isn't it fantastic to be able to find out information on people so quickly and easily. My guess is that if we do this poll again in a years time that % will have increased quite a bit. If nothing else it gives you good conversation pieces, especially if they haven't Googled themselves and don't know that they are, in fact, a world famous footballer!. I write childrens books in the States according to Google - or at least a namessake does.
It would be nice to know who Googles you though - I wonder if they would ever let you have those figures.
This week's poll is about how long you go out with someone before you consider it a committed relationship. Personally I think it depends on the person you're with - it can be very quick if the chemistry is there and you hit it off immediately.
Looking forward to seeing the results.

It can be, but it can also come back to haunt you. You can see a lot of people on here who have myspace or bebo sites and they seem to be a completely different person to what they say they are!
I thought that being googled meant that somebody who worked for Google hit on you!
I think it's good to know as much as possible about a person before meeting them but imagine trying to google someone called John Ryan or Aoife Murphy! You'd have more luck if you were mailing someone called Ricsteard Ramsbottom-Fetherstonhaugh-O'Donnell-Abu, Chieftain of Tipperary South Riding. I don't see the harm in googling someone to get a bit of background information. In the days before online dating nosy but well-meaning family and friends checked out potential dates but the world has got smaller. That might not be possible nowadays so nosy google can do it for us instead!
Well when I seen the post I thought It never entered my head to google someone so i went and googled myself and as it turns out i am a slightly famous singer in Texas, i even have a Myspace were i went to have a look and listen to my music, now not to blow my own trumpit but i dont sound half bad. All i need to do now is try remember the bank account codes and address :-)
It would never have even entered my head before to do this. But now that you've given the idea, I shall definitely use it in the future :-) Toffee
In the first 10 hits on Google, it shows me as:
a) An ABC Network Executive in the US
b) A romantic novelist
c) A current character in Coronation Street
I think I'll pick a) :-)

Am actually surprised ANYONE would google someone before dating them....dont people usually only give a first name? And even if you ARE armed with their surname, as was previously mentioned, there must be a gadzillion people with the same name - particularly with traditional Irish names - some famous, some not, but can't imagine googling someone would give you ANY information about the ACTUAL person. And even if it did, how would you know which one was the one you were going on a date with? Like how disappointing would it be to think you were meeting up with some famous rock star or baseball player with the gorgeous pic on google, and then weaselly squinty eyed Mick O'Shea who works in the local supermarket turns up..... Anyway, would be interesting to know how many people actually voted, as 48% saying yes could mean 50 people voted? 24 people said they would, 26 wouldnt.... also voting yes could have meant *oh thats a good idea, never thought of that before, must do that next time* without thinking of the inherrent problems mentioned before. So here's a question, HAS anyone actually googled someone before meeting them and/or gotten any useful information?? [sorry, there's a cynic in all of us....]
and did we ever think we'd see the day when *google* became a verb? genius marketing strategy naming that search engine (nearly 50% of the market share) - it's entered everyday lingo now - am guessing the marking guys in yahoo, ask jeeves.com, etc have long since been fired - somehow you just couldnt *yahoo* something, it wouldnt be right....
I "Yahooed" someone once Miss Kitten and was bound over to keep the peace : (
I've googled people before I've emailed them on dating sites and yes although you may only have a first name you may have other bits of information which will help in a search, such as where they work! Even just searching for the same username on bebo or similar websites may give you more info.
