Good to see my Valentine Theme has created a bit of dicussion. To fire you on a little bit more here are some lesser known facts about the day.....
February 14th has had strong links with fertility since long before St. Valentine ever arrived on the scene. It is meant to be the day when birds pick their mates for the season.
In the middle ages there was a belief that the first single person you met on Valentines Day would become your spouse - gives the commute into work a whole new meaning!
St. Valentine was said to have given a card to his executor on this day and it reportedly said "from your Valentine" hence the tradition of cards and notes on the day.
73% of Valentine Day flowers are bought by men and only 23% by women. Come on girls forget about girl power what about Flower Power - send them a rose.
Verona, the Italian city where Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet lived receives about 1,000 letters every year sent to Juliet on Valentine's Day.
