Photos on Profiles
Today, I'm going to have a little rant about photos on profiles! You're on a dating website, look on it the same way as if you were going out for a night on the town. What would you do? You'd get all dressed up, looking your best. Make-up and heels for the girls, after shave and clean clothes for the guys and off you'd go. So why then, when you are putting a photo on your profile, do you not give it the same attention? Blurred photos with two or three people in it is no way to attract the opposite sex. Taking a picture of yourself by holding your mobile phone in front of your face also doesn't produce the best results.
Get yourself dressed up, then get a friend or family member (or better still go to a professional - you wouldn't think twice about spending a fortune on a night out on the town so why not spend it on a photographer) to take a few pictures of you - head and shoulders is enough, you don't need a full length shot. Make sure you are looking straight at the camera and smiling! then post it on your profile and watch your mail box fill up - it's as simple as that.
So I'm really looking forward to seeing some wonderful photos on the site over the next few days.
Great comments to the Google post yesterday so I look forward to somemore great ones today. Remember, best comment of the week wins a months free membership on Maybefriends.com - the Home of Irish Dating

I think the blurred photos are better than the fake ones. I've seen Jamie Lee Curtis and Yvonne Ellard (ex-Miss Ireland) used as profile pics!
What really confuses me are the folk who have their baby pics up? Whats that trying to say? Date me, I was a cute baby so have good genes and our children will be beautiful? dunno...tis bit creepy tbh!
actually, how would you even know it IS them as a baby? Could be someone else's baby pics. I demand a DNA test!
Ah, Mr Tea, such a cynic, do ya not think Jamie and Yvonne deserve love too?
Mr Tea I agree the fake ones are worse than the blurred ones. Especially Homer Simpson he's very popular.
The real Jamie and Yvonne might well do Miss Kitten but not these impostors :D
This particular Jamie Lee Curtis ALSO has a pic of herself on her profile, along with one of Trinity..! Makes for interesting mails, and is always an ice-breaker..
And what do ye mean, pics of stuff that isnt us? But I actually AM a cat?!?!?! *confused*....
here's a thought... maybe the 'imposters' want to remain anonymous, but want to give people an idea of what they might look like, rather than have no pic at all? In that case, what are people trying to say when they post Homer as their pic..??
something like: *recently had jaundice. and gastric bypass surgery*
"here's a thought... maybe the 'imposters' want to remain anonymous, but want to give people an idea of what they might look like, rather than have no pic at all?"
Why not just describe themselves then instead of using someone else's image? And if someone sees a pic of that ex-Miss Ireland for example and doesn't know who she is then it certainly doesn't "harm" the person's profile does it? ; )
Er....okay, what about people who post pics of *themselves*.....ie themselves ten years ago! when they still had hair! Or before the tried the McDonalds diet....
Ok then, people should be pictured holding an upto date newspaper - hostage style - to prove it's a recent photo :D
newspapers, dna tests....aint we a paranoid lot!nobody takes anything at face value anymore....
I have taken advice on board("dressed up"; "head and shoulders"; "looking straight at the camera and smiling") and updated my profile photo - thanks for the tips!
Very funny Miss Kitten :D
Im lofty, great vision and a good european........at least thats what i wanted to promote by my watch tower picture, from where holland, belguim an germany all meet.....doe.........;-p
Most women on this site have photos up, but quite a few men haven't. It's really annoying. What have they to hide? Have they a criminal record or worse, are they married? Play fair and put up photos lads, most of ye wouldn't bother mailing us women if WE didn't ourselves displayed here like tarts competing for punters in Amsterdam's red light district.

Not everyone feels comfortable advertising their wares on site!! Each to their own: dont see the harm in waiting til you've made contact with someone before revealing your identity...tis a small world out there...and you never know who's looking - could be a boss...ex-boyfriend....someone you owe money to....the mafia....jehovas witnesses..... I agree though, if they're chosing to remain anonymous cuz they've got a missus up their sleeve and dont want to get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, thats not on!!! Bring back hanging, I say!
If I had the choice I wouldn't put up a photo but nobody would mail or respond to any woman of 40 or over without a photo for fear she might look like Peig Sayers on acid. On the other hand most of my emails have come from guys who don't have photos. It reminds me of that weird film Paris Texas starrign Harry Dean Stanton and Natassja Kinski. In the film Harry Dean Stanton plays a guy who goes into a place where men hire women in booths for a sort of private peep show. There's a one-way viewing glass between client (Harry) and customer (Natassja). It must be a really weird feeling knowing somebody on the other side of the glass can see you, but you can't see them. This is how I feel when guys without photos email me!
