Friendship

I was just thinking today, how strange it is, that, if you are really good friends with someone and then, for what ever reason, you don't see each other for ages, it is really hard to pick up where you left off. With people that you see once or twice a week you have lots to talk about, but people you see once or twice a year can sometimes be really hard work no matter how good a friend they are.
I don't think this has to do with compatibility or preferences. You don't necessarily have to consider people that you talk with every day as "friends" they can be more "acquaintances" but you will still have lots to say to them because you talked to them yesterday and they said they were going to the cinema last night so you then talk about the movie they saw etc.
This is what makes dating so much fun - by the time you have met someone 3 or 4 times you have tonnes to talk about - the first time might be a little strained but again, this is where the joy of online dating comes in - you start the conversation on email so by the time you meet, those awkward silences are well and truly dealt with and you have lots to say to each other - at least that's the theory anyway.
I'd love to hear your comments on this - remember the best comment of the week wins a months free membership on Maybefriends.com - the home of Irish Dating.

Jill, the site itself can be a topic of conversation on the first date. It's surprising how much you can both talk about regarding people who've emailed you, funny emails received, strange comments received etc.

The site is a good starting point for a chat as obviously both people use it and you have some common ground already : )

When talking about friends well my dad had a few friends he used to go fishing with etc years ago when i was a child growing up then things went bad (wont give details those who know me know what i mean) and he lost touch with all the guys but after about 10 years of no contact i bumped into one of them and he asked me for the house number and he called dad and listening to them on the phone it was like the picked up the conversation were they left off and that was about 10 years ago and they are still in touch so i think if the underlying friendships is their time will not really matter. Now weather it works the same for men and women i dont know.
